La expresión “as...as” es la que se usa para expresar comparativos del tipo “tan...como”

I live as far from Salamanca as you do.
Vivo tan lejos de Salamanca como tú.

My hair is as long as yours.
Mi pelo es tan largo como el tuyo.

Pero existen tres expresiones muy importantes y tremendamente socorridas que hacen uso de los gemelos “as...as” pero que están muy distanciadas en significado. Veámoslas:

As far as I know, ... = Que yo sepa, ...
(También se puede decir “To my knowledge, ...”
Esta expresión es muy buena pero un poco más sofisticada).

As far as I’m concerned = En lo que a mí se refiere...

...as long as... = ...siempre que...
(La expresión “siempre que” tiene dos formas de usarse en castellano:
- A condición de que: Lo haré siempre que me apoyes.
- Cada vez que: Siempre que le veo, está sonriendo.
La expresión “as long as” en inglés es como la primera forma:

I’ll do it as long as you support me = Lo haré siempre que me apoyes).

Keep out of trouble!
¡No te metas en lios!

One adjective: Awful - Horrible.
I´ve had an awful day.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL

Narrator: Marley was dead. There is no doubt about that. The register of his burial was signed by the clergyman (cura), the clerk (contable), the undertaker (director de la funeraria), and the chief mourner. Scrooge signed (firmar) it.

Scrooge and he were partners (socios) for many years. Scrooge was his sole (único) executor (albacea), his sole administrator, his sole friend, and sole mourner (doliente).

Oh! But Scrooge was tight-fisted, (tacaño) secret, and solitary as an oyster (ostra). Nobody ever stopped him on the street to say, “My dear Scrooge, how are you? When will you come to see me?” No beggars (mendigos) asked him for money. No children asked him what time it was. No man or woman ever once in his life inquired the way to such and such (tal o cual) a place. No-one asked Scrooge for anything.

But what did Scrooge care! It was the very (preciso) thing he liked, to keep all human sympathy at a distance.

Once upon a time—of all the good days in the year, on Christmas Eve—old Scrooge sat busy at his counting-house (contaduría). It was cold, bleak (crudo/gris), biting (cortante) weather. The city clocks had only just gone (dar la hora) three, but it was quite dark already. It had not been light all day. Candles were burning in the windows of the neighbouring offices. The fog was so dense outside that the houses opposite were mere phantoms.
