I´m sorry but I can´t make it to the party

He aquí una forma de utilizar el verbo “to make” que se usa a diario en todo el mundo de habla inglesa y que jamás aparece en ningún libro de enseñanza. Sin embargo, es la forma más corriente para expresar la idea de:

• poder llegar
• poder hacer acto de presencia
• aparecer en el sitio concertado
• poder ir



Es prácticamente imposible explicar los múltiples usos del verbo “to make” en este sentido, o más bien la expresión “make it”, puesto que siempre aparece acompañada del pronombre “it".

Veamos ejemplos con la esperanza de que nos ayuden a tener una idea más clara:

We’re not going to make it.
I won’t be able to make it to the party.
We made it!
So you can’t make it?
Don’t worry, they’ll make it here in time.
They made it just in time to catch the ending.
Can you make it?
We’ll make it there by dinner time.
Something’s come up.
I won’t be able to make it.
I can make it for the second day of rehearsals.
No vamos a llegar a tiempo.
No podré arreglármelas para estar en la fiesta.
¡Por fin hemos llegado!
¿Entonces no puedes estar?
No te preocupes, llegarán a tiempo.
Llegaron justo a tiempo para ver el
final.
¿Podrás estar?
Llegaremos allí para la hora de cenar.
Ha surgido algo.
No voy a llegar..
